Morning sunlight shines in through the eastward [[window]] in the kitchen.
Already in your workspace at such an early hour, the supplies for your newest project sit neatly [[upon the tabletop]] to the left of your chair.
Starting a new piece is always the most daunting part of a project. It's a blank slate, and you are just a beginner in [[this craft]].Looking out of the window, the sunrise is reflected off the water, scattering the colors of the sky across the somewhat choppy surface of the lagoon. The colorful faces of the few neighboring buildings greet the morning with the same brilliant colors. Your favorite building to look at is the (cycling-link:"bright red","sky blue","sunflower yellow","vivid pink","lime green") one you can see from your window.
In the distance on the water, you can just barely make out [[the shape of a boat]] bobbing along its route between wood stakes that disappear into the waves.
It's still bright and early. Outside of your abode, it is quiet. You have plenty of time and space to [[work on your newest passion project.|Intro]](text-style:"buoy")[The boat bobs up and down on the waves of the lagoon. ]
There aren't any other boats on the water yet to make the choppy waves in their wakes; the lone transit boat traversing its typical route to shuttle people between the islands of the lagoon just as a bus would. More boats will join it in the coming hours, ferrying locals and visitors alike between speckled dots of land dispersed in the waves. This one, you know from experience, will stop next at [[Murano]] before reaching the city of Venice in near an hour's time.
You watch it continue on by through your [[window.|window]]Upon the [[kitchen|Intro]] tabletop, you have all of the supplies for your needle-lace project laid out neatly.

]Venetian needle-point lace. A craft many centuries old. Once a thriving craft within your home of Burano, the number of people who create these delicate works by hand has dwindled over the years.
You learned from your (cycling-link: bind $whoTaughtYou, "mom", "aunt", "Nonna"), who learned from the school that used to stand on the island. A museum now stands in its place, so you learn from family how to create the different (link:"stitches.")[stitches, of which there are (link:"many.")[so many it's hard to remember [[all of them|an index of the types of stitches]] at the same time.]]
You've set yourself up in your [[kitchen|Intro]] this morning, pulling aside the kitchen chair to work in. The light you get from the [[window]] makes it a perfect workspace. This drawer is set into the center of the cylindrical pillow, a small handle allowing it to (link:"open.")[=open.
